The Seventh Non-official Consultation in the framework of the Syriac Dialogue, organized by PRO ORIENTE Foundation, Vienna, took place from October 4th to 7th 2004, at the Zion Retreat Centre of Kunnunthanam in Changanassery, Kerala, India, and was jointly hosted by the Syro-Malabar, the Malankara Orthodox Syrian and the Malankara Catholic Churches.

Continuing its efforts to provide mutual ecumenical understanding between all the Churches of the Syriac tradition, Pro Oriente invited the Sixth Non- Official Syriac Consultation to Vienna from March 7 to 11, 2003. This Consultation concluded the second phase of Pro Oriente ’s Syriac Dialogue, and it was the third one on the subject of „Sacraments in the Syriac Tradition“. The ecumenical dialogue of this particular meeting focused its discussion upon Eucharist, Priesthood/Holy Orders and Penance.

In its task to enable ecumenical encounter and to promote theological understanding, the PRO ORIENTE Foundation (Austria) had invited participants from all the Churches of the Syriac tradition for the Fifth Non-Official Syriac Consultation, which took place from February 26 to March 1, 2002, in Vienna, to continue its discussion on sacramental life in the Syriac tradition. This Fifth Consultation focused on rites which are identified and listed differently as raze/roze by the individual Syriac Churches.

Continuing in its quest to promote theological understanding and ecumenical relations among the apostolic Churches, the PRO ORIENTE Foundation has for a second time invited to Vienna participants from the Oriental Catholic Churches, from the Oriental Orthodox Churches and the Assyrian Church of the East, of both Jurisdictions, namely all who share a common ecclesial heritage in the Syriac language and traditions. This second Dialogue to include all of the Syriac Churches took place from February 22-27, 1996, in Vienna.
