Revd. Prof. Dr. Paul Bradshaw, an Anglican priest, is Professor of Liturgy at the University of Notre Dame, USA, where he taught since 1985, but is currently serving as Director of the Undergraduate Program at the University's London centre. For 18 years (till 2005) he was chief editor of the international journal Studia Liturgica. He is former President both of Societas Liturgica and of the North American Academy of Liturgy, and was also the Chair of the International Anglican Liturgical Consultation from 2001 to 2007. He has written or edited over 25 books and contributed more than 90 articles of essays, mostly in the area of early Christian worship, where his primary research interests lie.

His lecture questions the common assumption that the Jewish worship of later centuries already existed in the first century, and suggests that its influence on Christian practice may therefore have been less, and to be found in some Christian traditions more than in others.
